When I first started this rap shit, we paid to be on a mixtape with an original Brother Ali record and we’re booked to perform at the release party at The Subterranean in Chicago. I just got my license and moms wasn’t letting me drive on a school night into the city on the highway to perform. I had to finesse and say I was down the street, but we hopped in the van and drove down Ogden Ave from our town to Wicker Park and still couldn’t get in cuz we were underage. Had to double back to grab some boxes with the set up crew to blend in with the roadies. We got in and rocked that shit. “SubT, 17, you couldn’t tell me no”. Still live by those words today. “We just wanted to go, I drove down Ogden road”
